Wild Rover x Irish American Writers & Artists Collaboration for Haiti

by admin on February 20, 2010

Wild Rover has collaborated on a t-shirt with Irish American Writers & Artists. The goal is to raise funds for the relief effort in Haiti at an event this Wednesday, February 24, 7 p.m. at Connolly’s Pub in NYC. There are 65 limited edition shirts in black and maroon. Wild Rover will be donating 100% of the proceeds to CONCERN through Irish American Writers & Artists Inc.

The Irish Echo published an OP-ED this week written by IAW&A co-founder T.J English. He states “Irish pride is all well and good, but what is Irish pride if it is only about self promotion? The Irish in America have reached the highest levels of achievement. We no longer need to puff our chests out and wear Kelly green jumpers to show our self worth. It is time for Irish pride to become a celebration and accentuation of another aspect of our identity.” Click here to read more.

The show will be hosted by Terry George, the Academy Award nominated director/writer of the film “Hotel Rwanda.” Musical guests will include Ashley Davis, Seanachai and Unity Squad, a reunion appearance by Black 47, as well as a Haitian band and an African drumming group. Readers will include National Book Award winner Colum McCann, Malachy McCourt, T.J. English, Michael Patrick MacDonald and others. Proceeds from the event will go to CONCERN, an Ireland-based relief organization that had boots on the ground in Haiti even before the earthquake struck.

IAW&A is a non-profit organization dedicated to the celebration of Irish American writers, actors, musicians, filmmakers and artists both past and present. We are an INDEPENDENT and PROGRESSIVE collective dedicated to the principle that by promoting and appreciating creative expression, we can enhance the human condition. Our goal is to highlight the RICH TRADITION of Irish Americans in all manner of artistic endeavor in the United States, from the 19th Century to the present day.

Please show your Irish pride on Wednesday, February 24, 7 p.m. at Connolly’s Pub by throwing down $30 (or more if you can) for an important cause and help us make our theme for the night – Island People Supporting Island People – more than just a slogan.
