Hot Fashion Trends For The Irish Youth
Today, fashion trends come and go faster than ever before, and they can be traced back to many different sources. The Internet age has made it easy for Irish youths to keep their fingers on the pulse of what’s happening worldwide in fashion and accessories. For today’s younger generation, there are some key trends that signal bold new directions and fresh style…here is a look at the latest hot items and influences.
Vintage/Retro Cool (Remix Style) – Pop stars like Lily Allen and Katy Perry have influenced today’s Irish girls and women, prompting them to add more old-school elements into their outfits. Mixing modern T-shirts and other basics with vintage or vintage-inspired accessories is one hot trend for 2010.
Bold, primary colors and quirky retro palettes now appear everywhere…in handbags, hair accessories, jewelry, and shoes. Cherry-red, turquoise, and emerald green are great retro choices that work well with dark or neutral wardrobes. From the Lolita-inspired heart-shaped sunglasses of actress Evan Rachel Wood, to Lily Allen and Katy Perry’s full skirts (that bring to mind the diners and drive-ins of 1950’s America), vintage remains a global trend that shows in the wardrobe choices of today’s Irish teens. Bold pops of color, in the form of plastic or resin bead necklaces and bangle bracelets, are a great way to add a retro twist to funky t-shirts and jeans.
For guys, retro desert boots and funky collared shirts and sweaters add polish and a sense of irony to edgy, modern jeans and trousers. Musicians such as Beck and Jack White love to combine elements from different decades into their looks. This fashion trend, known as Remix, lends ensembles an eclectic, creative vibe that really gets noticed. For best results, Irish teens mix the clean lines of today with just one or two elements of retro style. Hair is also a factor in the remix look: for girls, headbands and heavy fringes are popular…guys tend to play with longer hairstyles that offer more versatility…
On the runways at New York Fashion Week, designers such as Anna Sui and Marchesa picked up on the hot 1950’s trend, giving models a vintage Barbie Doll look with bright frocks, ponytails with thick bangs and ruby-red lips.
Prints Charming
The days of solid colors and drab style are over for today’s Irish youth. Patterns and graphic images are back in the style forefront, adding color, visual impact, and dimension to everyday basics like T-shirts and hoodies. There is a real 80’s vibe to a lot of today’s hottest designs – this era celebrated neon tones, metallics, and over-the-top, glamorous (and sometimes “cutesy”) images…
For young women, animal motifs and charming, whimsical prints are the order of day. High technology allows today’s printed designs to offer amazing, intricate detail and color combinations. Long T-shirts worn with leggings were an 80’s staple, and many young Irish women choose this easy-to-wear, current look for their wardrobe basics. Keeping it all modern relies on accessories that are cutting-edge, and hair and makeup tends to be much more subtle than it was in the 80’s. Just a touch of bold eyeshadow or colored mascara gives a nod to the decade without seeming too overdone.
For young men, prints are also a great way to express creativity and style, without sacrificing comfort. Skinny jeans in a very dark rinse are often worn with today’s hot prints to balance this bold fashion statement.
