We had a cahnce to site down and chat with Biblecode Sundays band member Andy Nolan about his new screenplay Clan London.
Where did the inspiration come from for Clan London?
People I grew up with, stories that are now legendary in the UK underworld and the fact that no one has tackled this subject before. These are my main inspirations. This is an important social observation of London’s largest ethnic group and the cultural roots of the London underworld. I would best describe the script as Guy Ritchie with an Irish twist! Fast moving, brutal, funny but also deeply moving with a soundtrack to die for!
Who do you see playing Tommy McDonagh-is anyone attached to the role?
I’d love to have Jason Statham play Tommy McDonagh but I’m open to all suggestions and possibilities!
What is the soundtrack looking like?
The soundtrack is amazing and will require investment. Almost every scene has an allocated track, from rock legends such as Van Morrison, U2 and Oasis through to bands such as Kasabian and Elbow. The soundtrack is vital for me. Imagine Goodfellas without the soundtrack? Just wouldn’t be the same!
The Irish Gangster has been blasted out in film, and rumoured to be a dead horse by some. How do you feel about that and how will Clan London be different?
Clan London will be very different! This movie is about an Irish family growing up from 1970s London against the backdrop of anti Irish prejudice. The three brothers become heavily involved in organised crime and go on to become top of the UK underworld. The movie deals with the whole London Irish experience as well as the brutality of this particular crime family. I have begun writing the sequel Clanchester – another city with a huge Irish population and it’s fair share of naughty Irish criminals!
Having toured the world with BibleCodeSundays will there be any cameos from the musical talent you have played with?
Possibly, I have ideas for the main soundtrack too and we’ll get rehearsing very soon with this!
Describe the struggle of the McDonagh clan in 1970′s West London. What cultural references will be evident on film?
The family consists of three brothers and one sister. Born in London to poor Irish immigrants, like thousands of others they face anti Irish prejudice. This family however refuse to keep their heads down and tackle the adversity head on through violence – from the gutter to a position of power that surpasses all other criminal gangs! The very people that treated them like second class citizens are soon at their mercy under their bloody rule of terror! Under the No Blacks, No Dogs, No Irish attitudes of the time, the McDonagh clan soon align themselves with a nearby brutal crew of black criminals and become unstoppable!
The script has been forwarded to selected directors and producers. Clan London will get on to the big screen, I firmly believe that and the sequel Clanchester is looking amazing! Please support us at www.facebook.com/ClanLondon and www.myspace.com/clanlondonmovie
