Joe Hurley/ Colum McCann/ The Gents

by admin on November 8, 2009

Two great events are coming up in NYC, Nov. 13th and Dec. 8th, highlighting the EP release of Hurley/McCann’s The House that Horse Built (Let the Great World Spin) inspired by McCann’s breathtaking, best-selling novel Let The Great World Spin. Their songwriting collaboration has resulted in a glorious 12 minute epic of a song, sprawling across the wastelands and heartbreaks of a prostitute’s life in 1974 in NYC.

With Hurley on vocals and guitar, the EP features a stunning cast of musicians including Tony Shanahan (Patti Smith), James Mastro (Ian Hunter), Kenny Margolis (Cracker), Matt Sweeney (Johnny Cash, Bonnie “Prince” Billy), gospel great Tami Lynn (Stones, Dr. John, Dylan), Denis Diken (Smithereens), soul-singing film-star Antonique Smith, Faith Hahn, Joe Mcginty, and 6-time Grammy winning Paddy Moloney of the legendary Chieftans.

This limited edition EP was produced by Don Fleming (Pete Yorn, Sonic Youth) and will be available for the first time in the US at the Barnes & Noble event. This EP is the first part of Hurley/McCann’s recording project that will ultimately see a full-length CD of songs inspired by the novel, to be released next year.

Just announced! Colum’s Novel is a National Book Awards Finalist 2009! The novel has been rapturously received universally, and rave reviews can be read at ColumMcCann.com.
